Lord, take control of our emotions
Today's Devotion, Lord, take control of our emotions. No matter how hard we try, there will be some people that we will never be able to change. There may be members of your family, your friends, your partner, or even the people who you work with on a daily basis.
It is your job to love them and not hate them. Pray for them, but do not ridicule them. Because it's not your job to change hearts, it's God's job.
We sometimes take up burdens that we should give to God. Who is our burden bearer? He is also our problem solver. In 1 Peter 5 verse 7 it is written, Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
We sometimes allow our anxiety to let us take things into our own hands. The most painful thing that we can encounter is being misunderstood by people who we want the best for. We cannot change someone who doesn't see an issue with their problems, but God can change them.
Their stubbornness may be a generational curse that they aren't aware of. Sometimes God will put you around difficult people, not for you to hate them, but to teach you how to deal with them. You cannot learn how to swim if you don't go into the water.
God may put you in a situation to teach you to forgive and not to keep hatred and anger in your heart. There are times that arguments drag out because one is too stubborn to forgive and the other is too proud to apologize. In Psalm 32 verse 9 it is written, Do not be like the horse or the mule which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, God urges people not to be unyielding and stubborn like a wild animal that requires force to be guided. Heavenly Father, we seek your intervention to remove our pride and replace it with prayers that will help us to remove our stubbornness. In Zechariah 7 verse 11 it is written, But they refused to pay attention.
Stubbornly they turned their backs and made their ears heavy that they might not hear. Lord, soften the hearts of those who are full of pride and stubbornness. Let the fire of God melt every stubborn mountain and obstacle standing in the way of our progress.
Help us Lord to surrender our own need to be right and open our ears to your wisdom so that we will not only be hearer of your words but doers also.
All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
