Humility Gets God's Attention

Today's Devotion, Humility Gets God's Attention. In Luke 18 verse 10 to 14 it is written, 2 men went to the temple to pray, one a pharisee and the other a tax collector. The pharisee stood by himself and prayed, God, I thank you that I am not like other people, robbers, evildoers, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. But the tax collector stood at a distance.

He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, God, have mercy on me a sinner. I tell you that this man rather than the other went home justified before God, for all those who exalt themselves will be exalted. One of the things that I have learned from my relationship with God is the importance of obedience and humility.

Both can be seen as the primary antidotes to pride. Pride is often cited as the root of all sin. Humility makes you think less of yourself and it allows you to think less of your achievements because thus we are and thus we will return.

Obedience will let you do things that God tells you to do, even if you may feel uncomfortable doing it. In Psalm 18 verse 27 it is written, You save the humble, but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. And in Isaiah 1 verse 19 it is written, If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, pride pulls you closer to the devil and further away from God. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. As a child growing up, my mother always told me that the humblest calf sucks the most milk and I have seen for myself that humility will open more doors than arrogance ever will.

Humility can let you stand out in the crowd and it can let you receive the respect that the arrogant will never get because whatever pride separates, humility can join. Heavenly Father, lack of knowledge has caused many people to block their blessing because they are holding on to pride and they refrain from humbling themselves. Lord inspire us to be humble, gentle and patient every day so that it will become a part of our personality.

Lord replace our pride with humility so that we will become obedient and change the way that we think and we will live the way that will please you and teach us to be kind and caring to others.

All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
