Beware of pretentious people
Today's Devotion, Beware of pretentious people. A pretentious person is just someone who tries to seem more smart, important or fancy than they really are just to impress others. They will use big words just to sound clever. They wear expensive clothes only to show off wealth.
Pretentious people love to get the limelight and they lack humility. A pretentious person will call names of famous or rich people that they claim to know. My brothers and sisters in Christ, be more concerned with your soul than your image because God is more interested that what we say and what we do are on the same page.
Some people will only give when there is an audience, just to impress others. We cannot know God's will if we are ignorant of His word. He said that we should be kind to others.
He never said that we should impress others. In Galatians 1 verse 10 it is written, Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. God sees everything and He knows everything.
We cannot walk around with a mouth full of scripture and a heart full of pride and hypocrisy. Pretentious people are led by their ego and the blood of humility does not run through their vein. They will do good just to get noticed, not because God told them to do it.
We will not enter through the gate of heaven because of votes. We will enter because of our deeds. In Proverbs 13 verse 79 it is written, One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing.
Another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth. A person's riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.
Heavenly Father, we call upon you to guide our steps and remove pretentious people from our path and close the doors on relationships and friendships that break us down instead of building us up. Guide us towards safe, honest, God-fearing people who can guide us with your words. Give us the power to set firm boundaries and wash away anger, bitterness, resentment that we have carried in our heart because of pretentious people who have done us wrong.
Lord, we thank you for surrounding us with people who will give us encouragement to stay on the road of righteousness when we are faced with challenges.
All these we ask in Jesus' name, Amen.
