Today's Devotion, Lord, thank you for a heart of compassion. Having a heart of compassion in an evil world isn't easy, especially when you grew up in a family that showing love to each other was lacking. How our parents treated us set the standards of how we may end up treating our family.
Someone who grew up in a family that approved of keeping malice will never teach you about the importance of apologizing and forgiving others. I recently saw a video of a man who went into someone's business and held up the owner. After taking all the money that the owner had, the owner's four-year-old daughter, who saw her father giving the robber everything that he had, took out the lollipop from her mouth and handed it to the robber.
She wasn't crying, she did it because she saw what her father did. When the robber saw what she did, he broke down and began crying and gave back the owner everything he took from him. He then looked at the little girl, hugged her and walked away.
God has a way of breaking us down when we least expect it. The robber walked in the store to steal and he walked out in tears. The lollipop wasn't a gun but God made her use it to get back everything that the robber was about to steal from her father.
In Isaiah 41 verse 10 it is written, So do not fear for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. And in Proverbs 2 verse 11 it is written, discretion will protect you and understanding will guard you. Heavenly Father, we thank you for your protection and your guidance.
You are our refuge and our shield. You can calm the raging sea and you can do unbelievable things. In 1 Corinthians 1 verse 27 it is written, But God chose the foolish thing of the world to shame the wise.
God chose the weak thing of the world to shape the strong. Lord, we thank you for protecting us from all evil. Guard our going out and our coming in from this time and forever.
All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
