Sickness can reveal many secrets

Today's Devotion, Sickness can reveal many secrets. God has different ways in humbling us and he also has different ways of exposing us. In Luke 8 verse 17 it is written, For nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest, neither anything hid that shall not be known and come abroad.

Years ago a friend of mine told me that her husband met in an accident and he was admitted to the hospital in a serious condition. On her arrival she saw a young lady with a baby in her hand standing beside his bed. At first she assumed that it was one of his relatives but she eventually found out that she was the mother of his child and the baby that she had in her hands was his.

The hospital had opened the doors that he had hidden secrets. It exposed his lies, infidelity and many things that God does not approve of. God is all-knowing and nothing is hidden from his sight.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, the devil loves half of the truth because he can join the next half with a lie but the complete truth irritates him. In John 8 verse 44 it is written, You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.

When he lies he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Many thieves have been exposed because they have been injured and end up in the hospital. In Ephesians 4 verse 28 it is written, Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.

Wrath and bitterness can be exposed when you end up in the hospital, such as bruises from an abusive relationship and also the results of high blood pressure. Chronic anger, resentment and an unforgiving spirit keep the body in a constant state of stress. Even the cemetery can reveal your sinful secrets when people start fighting before the casket is put in the grave because of greed.

Heavenly Father, we can hide a lifestyle or a habit from our family, friends or church community, but the x-rays, MRIs and blood tests do not lie. Lord, many people are suffering because of pride, because they end up hiding their sickness from others. No matter how healthy we may be, sickness can come when we least expect it.

Lord, help us to live a life of honesty and godliness so that we do not need to hide anything from you because we will be exposed when we least expect it.

All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
