Lord, help us to set our boundaries
Today's Devotion, Lord, help us to set our boundaries. Never overstep the boundaries that God has put around you because overstepping these boundaries comes with a cost. It may cause you to be uncomfortable and it can also affect your relationship with God.
When someone oversteps your boundaries, they are letting you know that what you want doesn't matter. When you overstep God's boundaries, we are telling him that our way is better than his way. In Proverbs 4 verse 23 it is written, Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Don't talk out of both sides of your mouth. Avoid careless banter, white lies and gossip. If you see a sign that tells you to beware of dogs and you ignore it, you are putting yourself at risk when you turn a blind eye to it.
Overstepping your boundaries is acting in a way that is inappropriate and disrespectful, often by violating someone's personal space. God does not bless what his words forbid. People who overstep boundaries can be a major distraction in your relationship with God.
In Psalm 27 verse 11 to 12 it is written, Teach me your way, Lord. Lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, lack of boundaries invites lack of respect. Where boundaries are not set, you will always find the wrong people. The only people who get upset about you setting boundaries are the ones who were benefiting from you having none.
In Galatians 5 verse 13 it is written, You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free, but do not use freedom to indulge in the flesh. Rather, serve one another humbly in love. And in Leviticus 19 verse 17 it is written, You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him.
Heavenly Father, many times we find ourselves making choices without you, and we end up regretting the choices that we have made. You said in your word, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all our ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Help us not to open doors to people who do not meet your criteria to come into our lives. Enable us to follow your commands, and please give us the wisdom to set healthy boundaries so that we can serve you. Grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
