Today's Devotion, God allows suffering for a reason. In Proverbs 19 verse 19 it is written, a hot-tempered person must pay the penalty, rescue them, and you will have to do it again. If you have a family member or a close friend who is hot-tempered and they are lacking in self-control, they are liable to make the same foolish choices when they are put under pressure.
If you should ever find yourself in a situation like this and you refrain from getting them out of their predicament, do not be surprised if they hate you the one time that you refuse from helping them. The one time you say no may let them forget the many times that you said yes. God allows suffering for different reasons and there may be times when he may put you in a position where you are unable to help others so that he can resolve the situation his way and not your way.
God allows suffering to correct disobedience. He may put you in a situation that you may have to turn to him instead of turning away from him. This may be his way of getting the attention of a backslider who has drifted into the world.
In 1 Samuel 15 verse 22 to 23 it is written, but Samuel replied, Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice and to heed is better than the fat of rams, for rebellion is like the sin of divination and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king. My brothers and sisters in Christ, suffering is not pointless.
God uses it to deepen our trust and also to reveal his unchanging faithfulness. In 1 Peter 4 verse 19 it is written, So then those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful creator and continue to do good. Heavenly Father, you said in your word that all things work together for the good of those who love you, who have been called according to his purpose.
Lord, there are times that you will put us in situations that will build our trust in you. Lord, give us the strength to deal with our situation so that we can in turn speak about getting over our challenges and have testimonies of your goodness and your grace.
All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
