Repentance holds the key to forgiveness

Today's Devotion, Repentance holds the key to forgiveness. We live in a world where there are some people who will accept some sins but they will condemn other sins. Whatever God says is wrong, we cannot say it is right because we enjoy indulging in it.

In 2 Corinthians 7 verse 10 it is written, Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret but worldly sorrow brings death. Worldly sorrow is grief over consequences rather than grief over sin. We cannot say that we repent in our words but there is no repentance in our actions.

In 1 John 1 verse 9 it is written, If we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Heavenly Father, so many things are happening over the world and these things have caused you to become angry. In Isaiah 55 verse 7 it is written, Let the wicked forsake their ways and turn to the Lord.

Merciful Father, you have warned us but many are disobedient because they see the benefits of living in their wicked lifestyle and they are deaf to your words but they are not blind to your actions. In Luke 5 verse 32 it is written, I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. Lord, we come before you to seek your guidance so that you can open the eyes of the spiritually blind so that they can repent from their ungodly ways.

We confess that we have sinned against you in our thoughts, words and deeds. In 2 Peter 3 verse 9 it is written, The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.

Give us the strength and the wisdom to turn away from our sins and renew our commitment to follow your ways. Lord, we cannot seek you to forgive us of our wrongs and we are still holding on to bitterness, resentment and anger. Transform our hearts through your Spirit, renewing our minds so that we may be conformed to the image of your Son Jesus Christ.

All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
