Today's Devotion, Beware of Oversharing. Oversharing means sharing too much private, intimate and personal information with others who are not close to you. What people don't know about you, they will never be able to use it against you. It is easier to fix a running pipe than it is to fix a running mouth.

Be careful of what you share. Some ears listen to understand and others listen to use what they know when you least expect it. When you speak, remember God is one of your listeners and so is the devil.

Be careful of who you share personal details with because if you do not have the spirit of discernment, you may end up telling it to the wrong person. Revealing too much too soon can result in shame because not every engagement ends up into marriage. Oversharing can lead to discomfort and regret especially when personal boundaries are crossed without considering the consequences.

Never allow loneliness to let you overshare personal information with someone because you are trying to build a relationship. God gave us wisdom and we must be aware when to speak and when to be silent. Talking too much can lead to sin, boasting or gossip.

It is wrong to overshare things that don't concern you. Some people will do it to get the attention of others. In Leviticus 19 verse 16 it is written, Do not go about spreading slander among your people.

Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor's life. I am the Lord. And in Proverbs 13 verse 3 it is written, Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.

Heavenly Father, help us to take control of the things that we speak especially those who are trying to impress others. In Ephesians 4 verse 29 it is written, Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs that it may benefit those who listen. Lord, help us to control the things that we speak and reveal to others because the person who we assume is our friend today may become our enemy tomorrow.

The scorpion has its poison in its tail, but the person who knows all your secrets, who heard it from your mouth, has their poison in their tongue. In Proverbs 11 verse 9 it is written, With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.
