Today's devotion, Overstepping Spiritual and Physical Boundaries. Overstepping our spiritual boundaries can have serious consequences. God would never give you a spiritual assignment that you are not prepared for, even though you may believe that you are capable of doing it. Boundaries serve as a protection and if you are not prepared, overstepping it can lead to your destruction.
We all have spiritual gifts and we should never make a decision to do something that is not our calling. If you are an intercessor, never assume that you can cast out demons. God sets boundaries for us because having clear, consistent and confident spiritual boundaries leads to positive outcomes in various aspects of life.
God's boundaries are not meant to restrict us but to protect us and lead us to the abundant life he desires for us. Healthy boundaries guide our expectations, how we respond and relate to others. Unhealthy boundaries can lead to a range of negative outcomes.
Overstepping boundaries is going beyond what is proper, acceptable or allowed in a situation. It can ruin friendships and cause embarrassment, resentment, shame and guilt. In Proverbs 25 verse 17 it is written, Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he have his fill of you and hate you, my brothers and sisters in Christ.
You should visit your neighbor's house infrequently and leave before overstaying your welcome to avoid becoming a burden. The Bible informs us of the consequences that can come when we overstep our spiritual boundary. In Acts 19 verse 15 to 16 it is written, The evil spirit answered them, Jesus I know and Paul I know but who are you? Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them, overpowered them all and gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.
When you attempt to do things without God preparing you to do it, you will learn from the consequences. Heavenly Father, give us the wisdom so that we do not overstep our boundaries. Lord, help us to love and respect others so that we may never be guilty of overstepping our boundaries and ruin our friendships.
Grant us the courage to say no, especially when people overstep their boundaries and do things without communicating with us so that they do not take advantage of our kindness. May your Holy Spirit guide us and lead us closer to the person you want us to be.
All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
