Which do you prefer, 114 or 222?

Today's Devotion Which do you prefer, 114 or 222? I am not a gambler, so do not be misled by these numbers and by a pick-three in lotto. This has nothing to do with gambling. It has to do with compromise.

While taking one of my friend's sons to her mother's house, they began arguing in the vehicle. I intervened and calmly asked them, if they like doughnuts, they both said yes. They're about nine and six years old.

I asked them how many doughnuts are in the box and both of them said six. I then said, if you stop arguing with each other, I am going to buy a box of doughnut and tomorrow I will share it with both of you. I continued and said, if you argue with each other, you will both get one each and I will get four.

But if you remain quiet and do not argue, I will share it equally and each of us will receive 222. Which do you prefer, 114 or 222? No one was arguing who was right or who was wrong. They immediately reached a compromise, 222.

The following day, I showed them the box of doughnut and we individually prayed while I was driving. I drove for over 30 minutes and I could hear a pin drop. While I was driving, I knew that it was God who led me to use this strategy.

They agreed to a godly compromise and it was evident in their action. The role of compromise is to create a healthy relationship and there are times we will have to put aside our differences and live in love and unity. In Galatians 1 verse 10 it is written, Obviously, I am not trying to win the approval of people but of God.

If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ's servant. My brothers and sisters in Christ, as servants of Christ, our loyalty should remain to Him. He doesn't agree with greed and selfishness.

He is a God of love. He is merciful and He will help us even when we don't deserve it because of our actions. In 2 Timothy 4 verse 3 it is written, For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching.

They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. Heavenly Father, as an intercessor I thank you for leading me to do the right things because my aim is to please you and not people. Lord, give us the wisdom to discern when to stand firm and when to be flexible.

Grant us the grace to find common ground through compromise so that we can maintain peace and unity in our relationships.

All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
