Beware of unhealthy obligation

Today's devotion, beware of unhealthy obligation. Being obligated to the wrong person can turn a fairy tale into a nightmare, especially when desperation is the driving force behind obligation. When obligation comes with segregation, it may be in your best interest.
The same way that God sends people into your life, the devil can influence people to enter your life. He can use certain people to create conflict and division in your relationships. He can use them to distract you from your faith or goals.
It may be his way of tempting you with worldly desires and encouraging you to compromise your values. The devil is the father of lies, and he will find ways to take advantage of your weakness in order to lead you astray. Obligation can be a prison, especially when the generosity from someone comes with terms and conditions that are not aligned with God's principles.
Genuine obligation does not come with expectation, but the ones that have motives will. Be careful of those who will help you with motives. They will not receive their blessings from God.
The Lord is a burden bearer, a problem solver, and also a mind reader. In Proverbs 19, verse 17, it is written, Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done. Not everyone who helps you during your challenges will show you gratitude.
Always remember that their silence cannot delay your blessing. True generosity is given freely, with no strings attached. In Colossians 3, verse 12, it is written, Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
And in Luke 6, verse 35, it is written, But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. And your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.
Heavenly Father, You said in Your Word, A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself. Lord, we pray for those who are in need of Your help. Their circumstances have placed them in a situation that they are in a relationship with the wrong person, while others feel bound by obligations to people who are not good for them.
Please give them the courage to break free from these ungodly ties that have robbed them of their happiness and their peace of mind. They have made decisions without You, and now they are suffering from the consequences. There is nothing that You cannot do.
Please, Lord, remove them from these unhealthy obligations, so that they can commit their lives to You. All these we ask, in Jesus' name. Amen.
