Lord, help us to be obedient
Today's Devotion, Lord, help us to be obedient. You cannot do things your way instead of doing things God's way and don't expect consequences. In Psalm 128 verse 1 it is written, Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.
Obedience is not measured by our ability to obey laws and principles, it is measured by our response to God's voice. For us to be obedient to God we must remove pride. The Bible tells us how to resolve our conflicts but there are some people who prefer to do things the wrong way and expect to get the right results.
Using disobedience as your excuse is the best way to feel the wrath of God. God gave Jonah an assignment to go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it because of its wickedness. Jonah decided not to and he ended up in the belly of the whale.
If your stubbornness leads you to do things that are against God's will and you don't expect repercussions, you are as wrong as someone driving on a one-way street in the opposite direction and don't expect to be given a ticket. You may be able to bribe the police to avoid the ticket but you cannot bribe God to avoid the consequences. God is not a of persons and he is not impressed by your financial achievements.
In Acts 8 verse 20 it is written, may your money perish with you because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money. You have no part or share in this ministry because your heart is not right before God. God has a way of putting us through several tests before he sends us on an assignment.
If you are not ready to face opposition for your obedience to God, you are not ready to be used by God. It is impossible to have access to God with pride. God tests our faith, God tests our heart and he also tests our obedience.
Heavenly Father, many times we allow pride and disobedience to affect our relationship with you. Lord we ask you to remove them so that we do not have to deal with the consequences that come from them. Lord give us the desire to obey your commandments and live according to your words.
Lord remove the spirit of stubbornness so that we can do the things that are pleasing in your sight today and always. And give us the strength to swallow our pride so that it doesn't affect our blessings.
All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
