Today's devotion, Lord, protect us from spiritual malnourishment. Spiritual malnourishment is a condition of spiritual weakness resulting from a lack of proper spiritual food, such as prayer, scripture and worship. Spiritual malnourishment can cause spiritual malfunction.
A healthy physical diet consists of fluids and vegetables, whole grain, lean protein, healthy fats, dairy and fluids. A healthy spiritual diet includes living a life of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The sad reality is that some people put more emphasis on eating right instead of living right.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, study the word so that your faith may not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Beware of charlatans. Charlatans are religious frauds.
They will mislead you if you are ignorant of God's word. In Acts 17 verse 11, it is written, Now the Beryan Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonia, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the scripture every day to see if what Paul said was true. And in Psalm 119 verse 130, it is written, The unfolding of your words gives light.
It gives understanding to the simple. Heavenly Father, it is my responsibility to allow your word entrance into my heart, and everyone who has committed their lives to you should do the same. Lord, there are times we allow our distraction to affect our spiritual commitment, and we become lukewarm.
Lord, we confess that our desire for you has been affected as we allow our business and other things that we see as being important to get our undivided attention. Lord, restore our hunger and thirst for your righteousness. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.
I pray for those who are so distracted that they hardly pray, and their pride has caused them to change their way of thinking. Lord, we repent for the wrongs that we have done. You are the bread of life.
Help us to strengthen our spiritual muscles through prayer and worship. Sustain us with your word, which is the true food for our soul. Thank you for rebuilding our appetite so that we can feed on your word.
All these we ask, in Jesus' name, amen.
