Lord, Take Control of Our Emotions

Today's devotion, Lord, take control of our emotions. You can't expect God to be opening doors for you if you keep closing doors on him.

We are in need of him to answer our prayers but some of us don't want to commit their lives to his ways. We will pray and ask him to save us from the flood but as soon as he answers our prayers we can't wait to go back and wallow in the mud of sin. The same way in which the pig finds joy in wallowing in the mud, there are some of us who enjoy indulging in sin.

You cannot get deliverance today and go back to your sinful ways tomorrow. As a child we often found ourselves playing in dirt even when it was moist and became mud. As adults we have played in a different kind of mud that mud is sin.

Water can wash away the mud but it is the blood of Jesus that can wash away our sins. Enjoying sin has a way of destroying us and we must be aware that the things that we do in the dark has a way of coming out in the light. A friend of mine showed me a picture of a man hanging from a tree.

He realized that the children who he took care of all his life wasn't his after he saw the paternity test. I have seen several news items of people killing their partner because they found out that they were unfaithful. I had a friend who ended up killing his partner when he found out that she was cheating.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, if you treated someone the best way that you could and they walked away from you and started a relationship with someone else, you were in a one-sided relationship. In Hebrews 13 verse 4 it is written, Let marriage be held in honor among all and let the marriage bed be undefiled for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. And in Revelation 21 verse 8 it is written, But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.

Heavenly Father, we come against the spirit of unfaithfulness. Lord, help us not to take the persons who are in love with us for granted, especially when we do not find ourselves attracted to them. Help us not to mislead them in any way.

Lord, give us the power to overcome lust and for self-control in our thoughts and actions. I pray for those who are on the verge of committing suicide because of a broken heart and those who are going through depression. Lord, comfort them so that they will not harm anyone because of jealousy.

All these we ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
