Never underestimate silence

Today's Devotion, Never underestimate silence. Silence is a powerful tool for those who know how to use it, because when silence speaks it can never be misunderstood. Knowing when to be silent is an art that not many people can comprehend.

Be silent when you are tempted to joke about sin, because what is a joke to you is a loophole for the devil. Be silent in the heat of anger, because a tongue that remains calm when it is irritated will confuse those who expect expletives to come from it. Be silent and allow your money to speak for you, because people may judge and ridicule you based on your appearance.

Be silent when a situation is none of your business, because he who is busy watching someone else's pot will never know when the food in their pot starts to burn. Be silent when you are tempted to tell an outright lie, because lying lips are an abomination to the Lord. Be silent if your words can damage a friendship, because what goes around comes around.

A lion that is always roaring will scare away its prey, but the lion that remains silent will be able to pounce upon them when they least expect. My brothers and sisters in Christ, justified silence is better than loose talking. In 1 Peter 2 verse 15 it is written, For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.

Heavenly Father, no matter what comes our way, we have to remember that you are in control. Teach us that wisdom can be found in silence and stupidity in arrogance. Help us to understand that whenever we find ourselves into awkward situations, we can pray in silence, because when the wicked are in authority, sin flourishes, but the godly will live to see their downfall.

The Lord is the best listener, because he hears every silent prayer of a sincere heart.

All these we ask in Jesus' name, Amen.
