Today's Devotion, Lord, help us to listen to your confirmation. I got a message from a friend of mine, and she made reference to the morning devotion topic, Lord, remove the spirit of assumption. Even though she knew I was referring to the negative side of assumption, I thought that it would be best for me to clarify any misunderstanding.
The topic should have been, Lord, remove the harmful side of assumption. Assumptions can be both beneficial and harmful. When you are in the frame of mind to make an assumption, ask God for His confirmation, because with God's confirmation, you will never make harmful assumptions.
An assumption is a guess accepted as true without proof. A confirmation is the process of verifying that a belief is in fact true, usually through evidence. I remember praying and God told me to call someone who I didn't communicate with for several years.
This person took advantage of my kindness and tried to destroy my life. I didn't want to be disobedient, and I told God that if it is His will, I need a confirmation. My brothers and sisters in Christ, within 15 minutes, a friend who I haven't seen for over a month stopped by my house and gave me $7,000.
He told me that God told him to give me the money, and then he said the name of the person who God told me to forgive. Pride and disobedience block blessing. Deep down I didn't want to do it, but God opened my eyes to His goodness and His grace.
Many people are suffering because of pride and disobedience. They assume that they are under a spiritual attack because when God gives them a confirmation, their attitude becomes their biggest enemy, and they refrain from doing what God told them to do and are suffering because of the consequence. In Deuteronomy 28 verse 15, it is written, Lord, help me to listen carefully to your voice and follow your commands.
I don't want to walk away from your blessings because of my stubbornness. Give me a humble heart that obeys you willingly. Keep me close to you so I can live under your protection and grace.
Heavenly Father, I confess that we sometimes take your laws for granted. Teach us to respect and honor your word in everything we do and remove pride and disobedience from our heart and our mind. Lord, strengthen our commitment to obey you even when it's difficult.
All these we ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
