Lord, help us to break negative generational patterns

Today's Devotion, Lord, help us to break negative generational patterns. I was recently at an event showcasing some of my products, and someone took up a fridge magnet with these words, a padlock can keep out a thief, but it can't keep out a liar. I explained the meaning of the proverb to the person, we can sometimes put in security devices to prevent a thief from breaking into our house, but the keys that we share may be in the hands of a liar.

The person may be a relative, a roommate, or a partner. Many people are presently living with liars, and it may be causing problems in their lives, but the sad reality is that they may not be doing it willingly, it may be caused by a generational pattern, and this may be affecting their bloodline for years. Generational patterns are recurring behaviors, beliefs, communication styles, and even emotional responses passed down through families, often unconsciously, from one generation to the next.

These patterns can be positive, like artistic talents, or it can be negative, like lying and stealing. If a child grew up seeing their parents walking sideways, they will do the same thing, and they will assume that this is normal. Communication and financial habits can also be passed on through generational patterns.

In Exodus 34 verse 67 it is written, And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming the Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion, and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished. He punishes the children and their children for the sin of their parents, to the third and fourth generation.

And in Proverbs 26 verse 2 it is written, Like a fluttering sparrow, or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest. Heavenly Father, we thank you for opening our spiritual eyes so that we can see the danger that can come from generational patterns. Lord, I renounce every ungodly generational pattern that is contaminating my bloodline in Jesus name.

Lord, let every evil altar erected by my ancestors against my generation catch fire now in Jesus name. Lord, release your consuming fire upon every family strongman enforcing generational curses in my life in Jesus name. Lord, by your mercy, deliver me from every inherited curse of marital failure, untimely death, insanity, and addiction.

All these we ask in Jesus name, amen.
