Beware of Lying Lips

Today's devotion, Beware of Lying Lips. A lie is like a sledgehammer, It can break trust. A lie is like poison. It can kill the love that you have for someone. Lies can get you things that the truth may prevent you from getting because of deception. But always remember, God not only sees everything, He also hears everything.

Years ago, I remember seeing an article of a man who was deported. While he was overseas, he sent money to his brother to build a house on a land that he had. Every time he sent money, his brother would send him pictures a couple days after of what was done on the site.

He overstayed his time and he sent a message to his brother that he was going to be deported. After arriving, he made several attempts to contact his brother, but he didn't get through. He went to his property and he realized that the pictures he got was a house that was being built next door and nothing happened to his property.

As a child growing up, my mother always told me that a house enemy is the worst enemy. A padlock can keep out a thief but it cannot keep out a liar. If you can have a comfortable night's sleep after lying to someone who trusts you, you have a closer relationship with the devil than you have with God.

The truth will hurt you, but lies can kill you. In Psalm 10 verse 7 it is written, The wicked's mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression. Under his tongue are mischief and iniquity.

In Leviticus 6 verse 2 to 5 it is written, If anyone sins and commits a breach of faith against the Lord by deceiving his neighbor in a matter of deposit and security or through robbery or if he has oppressed his neighbor or has found something lost and lied about it, swearing falsely in any of all the things that people do and sin thereby, if he has sinned and has realized his guilt and will restore what he took by robbery or what he got by oppression or the deposit that was committed to him or the lost thing that he found or anything about which he has sworn falsely, he shall restore it in full and shall add a fifth to it and give it to him to whom it belongs on the day he realizes his guilt.

Heavenly Father, save us from lying lips and from deceitful tongues. Lies lead to hurt, mistrust and the destruction of friendships and relationships. Lord, you are a forgiving God and we know that if they confess their sins to you, you will forgive them. But if they refuse to seek your forgiveness, we call upon you to deal with the situation the way that you see best.

All these we ask in Jesus' name, Amen.
