Today's Devotion, Lord, help us to overcome our pain. It takes a strong person to love someone who did you wrong. It takes a strong person to speak to individuals who you know were gossiping about you.
It takes a strong person to help someone who have tried unsuccessfully to destroy your life. It takes a strong person to remain single in a world that is accustomed to settling for anything just to say that they have something. It takes a strong person to be more interested in building fences instead of burning bridges.
In Proverbs 16 verse 7 it is written, When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. And in Psalm 37 verse 22 to 23 it is written, The Lord will give the land to those he blesses, but he will cut off those he puts a curse on. If the Lord is pleased with the way a man lives, he makes his steps secure.
We cannot choose our assignments, it is God who chooses them for us. He will never put you in a situation that you are not prepared for. God may put you in a place where you may end up taking care of your enemy.
You may have the responsibility of taking them to the doctor, feeding them and ensuring that they take their medication on time. As believers we are called to love our enemies. My brothers and sisters in Christ, do not rejoice when your enemies fall, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles.
In Romans 12 verse 9 to 11 it is written, Let love be without hypocrisy, abhor what is evil, cling to what is good, be devoted to one another in brotherly love, give preference to one another in honor, not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord. God may not take the vengeance that we want him to take, but he may put us in a situation to feed them so that we can forgive them. Heavenly Father, you said in your word, instead be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven us.
Lord we often find it challenging to be kind to those who have done us wrong. Lord, close our ears to the things that man may say that is not in alignment to the things that you have said. Lord, remove the bitterness and resentment that is hidden in our heart.
Lord, help us to forgive our friends who have now been transformed to be our enemies. Give us the strength to forgive and the wisdom to know that forgiveness is a part of godliness.
All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
