Beware of busybodies

Today's Devotion, Beware of busybodies. A busybody is a nosy interfering person who meddles in other people's private affairs, showing excessive interest in things that don't concern them, all for offering unwanted advice or prying into personal matters. A busybody in the church is like a termite in wood, they can do more damage than you can imagine.

A busybody in our family or in our workplace can be more destructive than constructive. If you are busy doing the wrong thing, you must be prepared to feel the wrath of God. Busybodies are tattletales.

Scripture says that busybodies are idle people who are neglecting their work and go around looking for negative things in the people around them, often to share with others as gossip or to share with an authorized figure to make themselves look better. God sees our actions and he hears our conversation. Instead of trying to meddle in other people's business, some people need to keep busy getting their own affairs in order.

Busybodies are more focused on other people's business instead of focusing on the Word of God. The enemy's agenda is to kill, steal, and destroy. The characteristics of the busybody is more aligned to the enemy than to the righteous.

In 2nd Thessalonians 3 verse 11 it is written, For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. And in Proverbs 26 verse 17 it is written, Like one who takes a dog by the ears, is he who passes by and meddles with strife not belonging to him. Heavenly Father, you said in your Word in 1st Peter 4 verse 15, Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer or thief or evildoer or a troublesome meddler.

Lord, I pray that you will intervene in the lives of those who are ignorant of the fact that gossip can send them to hell just as killing someone can. Lord, may we help those who are engaged in this activity by speaking the truth in love to them. Lord, we may also have the courage to refuse to listen to their gossip even though it may offend them, but it is better to disappoint them than to disappoint you.

All these we ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
