Today's Devotion, Beware of distractions. Knowing God's word is good, but living by God's word is better, because knowing the word and not living by the word will never put us on the road to righteousness. In Matthew 7 verse 13 to 14 it is written, Enter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. There are two words in this Bible verse that gets my attention, and they are many and few. Many will find the road to destruction, and few will find the road to life.
The broad road distracts us, but the narrow road restricts us. The enemy is using distractions in your life to prevent you from growing closer to God, and to prevent you from doing the Lord's work. My brothers and sisters in Christ, pray and ask God for the wisdom and discernment to know where these distractions are in your life, and the strength to overcome them.
God will restrict us in order to protect us. Restriction comes with guidelines, and these guidelines lead us closer to God and further from the things that are ungodly. In Galatians 5 verse 13 it is written, You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free, rather, serve one another humbly in love.
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping one command, love your neighbor as yourself. And in Proverbs 4 verse 24 to 27 it is written, Keep your mouth free from perversity, keep corrupt talk far from your lips, let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you, give careful thought to the paths for your feet, and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left, keep your foot from evil.
Heavenly Father, there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. Lord, we thank you for removing the distractions that can lead to our destruction, and we thank you for removing every distraction that has taken control over our children, bad company, unequally yoked relationships, addiction, and everything that is pulling them in the wrong direction. I bind the spirit of procrastination and laziness.
Lord, ignite a hunger in us for your word, and tear down every distraction that is being used by the devil to destroy our lives. Lord, help us not to be a victim of the devil's work.
All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
