Today's Devotion, People-pleasing is a sin. People-pleasing is a behavior pattern where someone consistently prioritizes others' needs and approval over their own. Do not be afraid of losing people.
Be afraid of losing yourself by trying to please everyone around you. People-pleasing is misplaced fear. It happens when our fear of man becomes greater than our fear of the Lord.
The things that pleases man may not be the things that pleases God. Going the extra mile for an ungrateful person may not please them because they may be hard to please. They may never show you gratitude because they are too busy showing you your faults.
Do not be a people-pleaser. Many people will be your friend when they can benefit from you, and the minute that you are not able to help them, you may end up being number one on their enemy list. You cannot be a true child of God if your aim is pleasing the sinner instead of trying to change the sinner so that they can find God.
In Proverbs 23 verse 9 it is written, Don't waste your breath on fools, for they will despise the wisest advice. My brothers and sisters in Christ, if they cannot take godly advice, they may want you to compromise with the plans of the enemy. In 1 Thessalonians 2 verse 4 it is written, So we speak not to please man, but to please God who tests our heart.
And in Ephesians 6 verse 6 it is written, Not by the way of eye service, as people-pleasers, but as bond-servants of Christ doing the will of God from their heart. Do not be too busy pleasing everyone that you cannot find time to serve God, because God will remove them in order to get your undivided attention. Heavenly Father, you said in your word in the same way, Let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Lord, help us to work to please you, not other people, because people-pleasing is a sin that many people are ignorant of. Lord, before we say yes to do something, let us turn to you before we make a decision. Lord, deliver us from people-pleasing.
Teach us to no longer be a slave to other people's opinions and expectations. Instead, let our actions honor you and reflect your heart.
All these we ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
