Avoid careless speech

Today's Devotion, Avoid careless speech. Discretion of speech is better than eloquence with words. Discretion is used when you don't want to offend people, but eloquence is used when you want to impress people. Careless speech has serious consequences.

It lacks empathy, which can cause pain and embarrassment to others. Careless speech can start fights, and it can also end lives. He who is careful with his words will not be careless with their life.

But he who is careless with what they say about others can assassinate someone's character. Words have power, and we must be careful of what we say about others, because if it doesn't harm you physically, it will definitely hurt you financially. Words have power, so we must be careful of the things that we say about others.

If you cannot say something that is good, do not be irresponsible by saying something that is bad. Be careful of the careless speech that you make about someone, because there may be someone who is a relative or a friend who is hearing everything that you are saying. In Proverbs 17 verse 27 to 28 it is written, The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.

Even fools are thought-wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues. And in Leviticus 5 verse 4 it is written, Or if a person swears thoughtlessly with his lips to do evil or to do good, in whatever matter a man may speak thoughtlessly, with an oath, and it is hidden from him, and then he comes to know it, he will be guilty in one of these. My brothers and sisters in Christ, if we are doing God's work, we cannot be endorsing careless speech.

We must be focused on destroying it. Heavenly Father, you said in your word that every careless word that we speak, we shall give account for it on the day of judgment. Lord, we repent for not understanding the power of our words, especially during times of anger, and when we are going through times when we are frustrated.

We renounce every careless speech, and we accept the responsibility of being intentional with our words. Lord, forgive us and put a seal on our lips, and help us not to be careless with our speech.

All these we ask, in Jesus' name, Amen.
