Overeating is a sin that many aren't aware of

Today's Devotion, Overeating is a sin that many aren't aware of. Not because everyone enjoys watching it, that doesn't mean that you should partake in it. I recently saw a news article of a man who died from choking in a bun and cheese contest.

Losing the life of a loved one isn't easy, especially when death comes when you are not prepared for it. The Bible considers overheating, often described as gluttony, to be a sin. It is portrayed as a form of greed or lack of self-control, where indulgence in food or drink takes priority over spiritual health and honoring God.

The Bible warns us about gluttony. In Proverbs 23 verse 20 to 21 it is written, Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor and drowsiness clothes them in rags. People who indulge in overeating is slowly digging their graves with their teeth.

Never let your emotions take you to the wrong places, because whatever your problems are, the answer is not in the fridge nor is it in alcohol. Your strength lies in your knees and there will be times that you will have to starve the flesh and feed the spirit with the word of God. Depression and distractions can lead you to find comfort in doing or partaking in the wrong things.

Excuses don't get results but self-discipline does. Because a mountain that is built on excuses will never give you a solution to a problem. In Philippians 3 verse 19 it is written, Their destiny is destruction, their God is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame.

Their mind is set on earthly things. And in Ezekiel 16 verse 49 it is written, Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom. She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned.

They did not help the poor and needy. Heavenly Father, I pray for divine strength and grace for those who need to overcome the spirit of gluttony. Lord, whatever may be the cause of it, whether it may be lack of knowledge or a generational curse, we call upon you to intercede in the lives of those who are secretly suffering by gluttony because it harms their physical, spiritual, and mental health.

For life is more than food and the body is more than clothes. In Proverbs 28 verse 7 it is written, A discerning son heeds instruction, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father. Lord, we thank you for your help in resolving the problems the way that you see best.

All these we ask in Jesus name, Amen.
