Listen to God's warning

Today's devotion, listen to God's warning. Never force yourself into a friendship, a family, or a business that God is keeping you away from, because He has His reason for doing it. Not every warning comes with a sign.

There are some warnings that will come because of our disobedience. I remember seeing a video of a child who was told not to touch an iron that was plugged in several times by her mother. It wasn't until her mother walked away that the child realized why she shouldn't touch the iron.

Many of us can look back at the things that we were warned against that we did not adhere to. You may have gone through a heartbreak that was caused by being in a one-sided relationship, a business with someone who you didn't realize was unscrupulous, a divorce or a setback that could have given you a nervous breakdown, all because you did not listen to the warning. Scotch bonnet pepper has a beautiful color on the outside, but it's hot on the inside.

Do not be fooled by what you see on the outside, because all that glitters isn't gold. There are some warnings that teach us to listen, and there are some that will send you to your grave. In Jeremiah 6 verse 10 it is written, To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ears are closed, and they cannot listen.

Behold, the word of the Lord has become a reproach to them. They have no delight in it. My brothers and sisters in Christ, when we are deaf to God's warning, we must be prepared for the consequences.

In Isaiah 30 verse 9 it is written, For this is a rebellious people, false sons, sons who refuse to listen to the instructions of the Lord, heavenly Father. Many times we do not listen to your warning. In Jeremiah 6 verse 19 it is written, Here, O earth, behold, I am bringing disaster on this people, the fruit of their plans, because they have not listened to my words.

And as for my law, they have rejected it also. Lord, we come before you acknowledging that we have often closed our ears to your warnings and your guidance. We have become disobedient, and we confess the times our pride and our stubbornness has led us to ignore your words.

Lord, remove from us the spirit of disobedience and help us to repent so that we will listen to your warnings and do not go back to our selfish ways.

All these we ask in Jesus' name, Amen.
