Today's Devotion, Obedience to God comes with a cost. Obedience to God might cost you friendships. It may cost you to remove from a place where you are comfortable and put you at a place where you are uncomfortable.
It may cost you to make sacrifices, but it will never cost you His promises. Closest to God is about including Him into every decision that you make. It is not about feelings.
It's about obedience. Obedience to God may sometimes require you to disappoint the expectations of others. It may be His way of exposing someone who only knows you when they want something from you.
True obedience is the refusal to compromise. You cannot lower your standards and assume that there will not be a repercussion. The enemy didn't tempt Adam and Eve to kill, steal, or destroy.
He told Eve that you would not surely die. The devil's tactics will never change. He will add words or subtract words for you not to be obedient to God.
I remember praying to God and asking Him for two tires for my van. The following day, my prayers were answered, but I only got enough money for one. Even though I was grateful, I reminded Him that I wanted two tires.
As I entered the business place with the money in hand, I saw my friend. He told me he just got some tires from a customer who wanted to sell them. He then said that I could get two tires for the exact money that I had in my hand.
God didn't need me to remind Him. All He wanted was for me to trust Him. The pain of obedience is the price of the blessing.
In Psalm 119 verse 35 it is written, Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found. In Psalms 128 verse 1 it is written, And in John 14 verse 21 it is written, And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them. Heavenly Father, help us to be obedient to You especially during our challenging circumstances.
Father, we understand what it means to follow Jesus and the same way that the devil tempted Him, he will also want to tempt us. We know that obedience to You may destroy the things that we enjoy, but it is worth it. Thank You for giving us strength to overcome the challenges that we are faced with so we can receive the blessings that You have in store for us.
All these we ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
