Today's Devotion, Overcoming the stress of guilt. Overcoming guilt isn't easy especially when you find yourself in uncomfortable situations like hurting someone who doesn't deserve it, taking something without asking permission or lying to someone who trusts you and would never question your integrity. A guilty conscience can make an uncomfortable bed and some people will never be comfortable with the things that they have achieved through questionable circumstances.
While there are others who are so heartless and so corrupt that they have no remorse for the things that they have done, one of the invisible signs that comes when we do things to others is the pain and the scars that we have left in their life while we are trying to overcome our guilt. The Lord knows when we are genuine in our apology to others and he knows when our hearts are made from stone and he knows when we are unrepentant. When we are struggling with the burden of overcoming guilt, always turn to God because he is the burden bearer who can give us inner peace and he can also heal those who we have done wrong.
In Psalm 38 verse 4 it is written, for my iniquities have gone over my head like a heavy burden. They are too heavy for me and in Psalm 32 verse 5 it is written, I acknowledge my sin to you and I did not cover my iniquity. I said I will confess my transgression to the Lord and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, pray and ask God to reveal any unknown feelings of guilt and shame so you can ask for forgiveness. Heavenly Father, I pray for those who have allowed their pride to stop them from seeking your forgiveness. Lord, many times we may lock away the guilt in our closet and we allow these hidden burdens to grow and affect our mental health.
You said in your word that if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Thank you, Lord, because you forgave the iniquity of your people and you covered all their sins. For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you, merciful Father.
All these we ask in Jesus name. Amen.
