Lord, help us to value our integrity
Today's Devotion, Lord, help us to value our integrity. A friend of mine sent me a video. It was about a woman who went into a butcher shop. A couple minutes before it was about to close, she asked the butcher if he had chicken and on opening the freezer he realized that he only had one left.
He took out the only chicken that he had and weighed it and she said she wanted one that was bigger. He was so desperate for the sale that he put back the only chicken but this time when he removed it from the freezer, he ensured that his hand was resting on the scale in order for it to weigh more. She then told him that she wanted both of the chickens.
God has a way of exposing those who will try to use their craftiness to deceive others. If he had known that she wanted only one chicken, he would never have been dishonest. In his attempt to rob her secretly, God exposed him publicly.
Some people will never know the importance of their integrity until they ruin their reputation. Actions have consequences and this may have a lasting impact on the rest of your life. How we do business can have a negative impact on how our children will do their business if craftiness is a part of our character.
Wisdom is knowing the right path to take and our integrity is exposed when we take it. People with integrity will do things differently and their reputation is worth more than a dishonest sale. If they give you their word, you can count on it.
They believe in transparency. They are people who you can trust. They know what is right and they are not afraid to stand up for it even if they are going to stand by themselves.
They give credit where credit is due even when you and them don't always see eye to eye. In Leviticus 19 verse 11 it is written, Do not steal, do not lie, do not deceive one another. My brothers and sisters in Christ, lying and deceit are forbidden emphasizing God's standard of honesty and integrity.
In Proverbs 21 verse 6 it is written, A fortune made by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a deadly snare. Do not be fooled. Dishonest gains are temporary and ultimately lead to trouble.
Heavenly Father, You said in your word that the love of money is the root of all evil. Help us not to love money over our integrity because when we deceive people of their hard-earned money, we will eventually suffer from the consequences. Lord, help us to maintain your standards and do not lower them.
You said in your word, No one who practices deceit will dwell in your house. No one who speaks falsely will stand in your presence. Help us, Lord, to stand firm in your truth and to resist any influence that seeks to lead us astray.
All these we ask in Jesus' name, Amen.
